Today went to church in the morning..
The title of talk today is about Peter.
Luke 5:1-11
1 One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God. [NLT]
2 He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. [NLT]
3 Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. [NLT]
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”[NLT]
5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”[NLT]
6 And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! [NLT]
7 A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. [NLT]
8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” [NLT]
9 For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. [NLT]
10 His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”[NLT]
11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. [NLT]
Many people were attracted to Jesus to listen to the Word of God. Why do you think they were drawn to Him?
Jesus didn’t need to be in a pulpit or classroom to teach. This reminds us we too can teach anywhere. What are some places you hadn’t thought of where you might teach?
In this story Jesus called fishermen to go out where it was deeper and to let down their nets. What may this suggest about His call to each of us?
To go deeper mean:
1. Try new technique
2. Act in faith and believing
3. To study His Word more
Simon, a good follower of Jesus. Even though he had worked all night without a catch, because God told him to do something, he did it. He believed God’s Word. Simon Peter had done it but why we can’t?
Think about this: Nets were so filled with fish that they began to tear. How powerful is God!
When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees and said, “I am too great a sinner to be around you.” Or he may be implying, “Oh, Lord, I am not worthy to be your worker.” Ask yourself, Why?
Simon Peter was awestruck at this miracle, and his first response was to realize his own insignificance in comparison to this man’s greatness. Peter knew Jesus had healed the sick and driven out demons, but he was amazed that Jesus cared about his day-to-day routine and understood his needs. What a wonderful reminder! God is interested not only in saving us but also in helping us in our daily activities.
God has two requirements for coming to Him. Like Peter, we must recognize our own sinfulness. Then, like these fishermen, we must realize that we can’t save ourselves and that we need help. If we know that Jesus is the only one who can help us, we will be ready to leave everything and follow Him.
A bit of study shows that this was the disciples’ second call. After the first call (Matt.4:18-22; Mark 1:16-20), Peter, Andrew, James and John had gone back to fishing. They continued to watch Jesus, however, as he established His authority in their lives. He met them on their level and helped them in their work.
From this point on, they left their nets and remained with Jesus. For us, following Jesus means more than just acknowledging Him as Savior. We must leave our past behind and commit our future to Him.
May we trust in Jesus as the disciples did! Amen.
Jesus grabbed this chance to call his disciples and did a miracle to witness God’s power. Recall our past, it is not that we did not have a chance to do so, but is we didn’t go and try. When chances are coming, we are avoiding it. But why? When chances is gone we blame that we don’t have any chance. Think about it and do it out in the name of Jesus.
